Debbie

Roof Replacement

"I can’t speak high enough of John and his son, Anthony. My 101 year old Mum had water coming in through her kitchen ceiling following a recent storm and my friend recommended these guys having used them extensively in the past. They came out and gave a quote. However, once they started the job it quickly became apparent that the job was a lot bigger than first anticipated thanks to some previous workmanship resulting in the wall not even being attached to the house!! The job was completed today and I’m over the moon with the result. Would not hesitate to recommend for any roofing jobs."

Laura

Window Fitting

"John and his team were great, John came out promptly and looked at the job in hand and provided a quote in a timely manner, once we booked the job he kept in contact to come out and fully measure up and then organised the window install, john kept me updated all the way through and as soon as the window was made and ready organised a date to complete the job ,John and his team were lovely and very professional, really great job completed and they tidied up everything after, we would definitely use them again "

Richard

New Roof

"We knew from the very first conversation with the lady in the office that this would be a great firm to deal with. We were given an appointment for a quote and Anthony turned up bang on time as agreed. We agreed the cost and timing straight away. This is a family business & John & Anthony were fantastic to deal with. You can really tell that they care about their work & have great attention to detail. Their team of roofers were a great bunch of guys & they tidied up afterwards. Highly recommended. Wouldn’t hesitate to use them again."

New Roof Installations FAQ’s

Can I do a flat roof myself?

You can but for most homes it’s not a good idea.

A flat roof isn’t like laying a few felt sheets and hoping for the best. The success of the job comes down to details that are easy to get wrong without experience: correct falls (so water actually runs off), clean edges and upstands, the right fixings, and proper sealing around any outlets, parapets, skylights or abutments. Miss one small detail and you often don’t find out until the first proper downpour… and by then the damage can already be underway.

If it’s a small shed roof and you’re confident, fair enough. But for a house, garage, extension, dormer, or anything joined to the main property it’s usually cheaper (and far less stressful) to have it done properly the first time.

Why don’t insurers like flat roofs?

It’s not that flat roofs are “bad” — it’s that they’re statistically more likely to leak if they’re poorly designed or poorly installed.

Insurers mainly worry about:

  • Water sitting on the roof (standing water increases wear and finds weak points)
  • Hidden failures (a flat roof can let water track between layers before it shows inside)
  • Shorter life expectancy on older systems (especially older felt, patch repairs, or unknown installs)
  • Higher claim costs if leaks go unnoticed (wet insulation, rotten decking, damaged ceilings)

The good news: modern systems like EPDM / rubber roofing and properly built warm roof set-ups have made flat roofs far more reliable — but insurers still tend to ask more questions because so many claims come from older or badly patched flat roofs.

What is the cheapest option for a flat roof?

If we’re talking upfront cost only, the cheapest option is usually basic torch-on felt (or a budget felt system).

That said, “cheapest” is where people get caught out because the cheapest flat roof can become the most expensive one if it fails early and starts letting water into the deck, insulation, or ceilings.

Here’s the honest breakdown:

  • Cheapest upfront: Basic felt (often used on sheds/outhouses and low-risk areas). Works, but it’s more vulnerable if the falls aren’t right, detailing is poor, or it’s exposed to ponding water.
  • Best value over time (common choice): EPDM / rubber roofing. Usually a bit more to install than a budget felt roof, but it’s reliable, forgiving with movement, and tends to give a better long-term result when fitted properly.
  • Not usually the “cheap” option: GRP (fibreglass). Great finish when done right, but it’s more labour-heavy and can cost more.

If you want the real cheapest route without regrets, it’s this: choose the system that suits the roof and make sure the prep and details are done properly (decking, edges, outlets, upstands, and correct falls). Most flat roof problems come from corners being cut on the build-up, not the material name on the quote.
