What People Say About Us
Family-Run Roofing You Can Rely On.
Debbie
Roof Replacement
"I can’t speak high enough of John and his son, Anthony. My 101 year old Mum had water coming in through her kitchen ceiling following a recent storm and my friend recommended these guys having used them extensively in the past. They came out and gave a quote. However, once they started the job it quickly became apparent that the job was a lot bigger than first anticipated thanks to some previous workmanship resulting in the wall not even being attached to the house!! The job was completed today and I’m over the moon with the result. Would not hesitate to recommend for any roofing jobs."
Laura
Window Fitting
"John and his team were great, John came out promptly and looked at the job in hand and provided a quote in a timely manner, once we booked the job he kept in contact to come out and fully measure up and then organised the window install, john kept me updated all the way through and as soon as the window was made and ready organised a date to complete the job ,John and his team were lovely and very professional, really great job completed and they tidied up everything after, we would definitely use them again "
Richard
New Roof
"We knew from the very first conversation with the lady in the office that this would be a great firm to deal with. We were given an appointment for a quote and Anthony turned up bang on time as agreed. We agreed the cost and timing straight away. This is a family business & John & Anthony were fantastic to deal with. You can really tell that they care about their work & have great attention to detail. Their team of roofers were a great bunch of guys & they tidied up afterwards. Highly recommended. Wouldn’t hesitate to use them again."

Family-Run Roofing You Can Rely On.
Roofing & Building Services in Washington
Windsor Roofing is built around a team you can genuinely rely on. We’re small but mighty and that’s a good thing. It means you’re not getting a random mix of subbies you’ve never met; you’re getting the same trusted faces, the same standards, and the same attention to detail on every job.
Most of our team have worked side-by-side for 14 years, so we know how each other works, we communicate properly, and the job runs smoothly from start to finish. On top of that, one of our roofers has over 30 years’ roofing experience, bringing old-school craftsmanship and the kind of knowledge you only get from being on roofs for decades spotting issues early, knowing what will last, and making sure the detail work is done properly.
Because we’re experienced and tight-knit, we can offer something a lot of bigger firms struggle with:
- Consistency – the same level of workmanship on every roof, every time
- Clear advice – honest guidance on what needs doing (and what doesn’t)
- Pride in the finish – neat lines, correct fixings, tidy leadwork, and strong weatherproofing
- A smooth experience – organised work, good communication, and a site that’s kept respectful and safe
Whether it’s a full new roof installation, a flat roof replacement, or roofline upgrades like fascias, soffits and guttering, we take the same approach: do it properly, keep you informed, and leave you with a roof that looks right and performs as it should for years to come.
How can you tell a dodgy roofer?
A dodgy roofer usually gives themselves away before they even get on the roof. A few red flags to watch for:
- They knock on the door out of the blue and claim they “noticed a problem” while working nearby.
- They push for a decision on the spot or try to scare you with worst-case scenarios.
- They won’t put anything in writing, or the quote is vague like “roof work” with no detail.
- They ask for full payment upfront, or only want cash. A small booking deposit can be normal, but you should never feel pressured.
- No proof of insurance, no registered address, no reviews you can verify.
- They don’t explain what they’ve found with photos or a clear breakdown of what needs doing and why.
A genuine roofer will be happy to show you what’s wrong, talk you through options, and provide a clear written quote so you can compare properly. This is precisely what our team does!
What is the most expensive part of replacing a roof?
In most full roof replacements, the biggest costs are usually:
- Scaffolding (especially on taller homes or where access is awkward)
- Labour (stripping off, re-felting, battening, fitting tiles or slates, and finishing correctly)
- Materials (tiles/slates, breathable membrane, battens, fixings, ridge systems, ventilation)
If the timber structure has issues, replacing rotten rafters or decking can add cost quickly, but on a standard re-roof, scaffolding and labour are often the largest chunk of the bill.
What time of year is the cheapest to replace a roof?
There isn’t a guaranteed “cheap season” because roofing prices are driven more by demand, weather windows, and material costs than a fixed calendar. That said, in the North East:
- Late autumn and winter can sometimes be quieter, so you may find more availability.
- But bad weather can slow jobs down, so the trade-off is longer time on site or more rescheduling.
- Spring and summer are the busiest, which can mean longer lead times.
If cost matters, the best approach is to plan ahead and book early rather than waiting for an emergency. Almost always, emergency work incurs higher costs due to its urgent nature.
Is it worth getting a new roof?
If your roof is repeatedly leaking, losing tiles, sagging, or the underfelt has failed across large areas, a new roof can be one of the best investments you can make in your home.
A replacement roof is often worth it because it can:
- Stop ongoing repair bills and reduce the risk of internal damage
- Protect the structure (timbers, ceilings, insulation, electrics)
- Improve energy efficiency when ventilation and underlay are brought up to modern standards.
- Increase buyer confidence if you ever sell, because a sound roof is a big tick-box for surveys.
If the issue is isolated, a repair may be the sensible option. The key is getting an honest inspection, then choosing the option that genuinely protects the property long-term, not the one that sounds most dramatic.
