Fascias, Soffits & Guttering in Sunderland
Your roofline protects the edges of your roof and helps keep rainwater flowing where it should. If boards are tired, gutters are leaking, or the whole front edge looks rough, replacing your roofline can smarten the property and reduce ongoing maintenance.

Roof Replacement
"I can’t speak high enough of John and his son, Anthony. My 101 year old Mum had water coming in through her kitchen ceiling following a recent storm and my friend recommended these guys having used them extensively in the past. They came out and gave a quote. However, once they started the job it quickly became apparent that the job was a lot bigger than first anticipated thanks to some previous workmanship resulting in the wall not even being attached to the house!! The job was completed today and I’m over the moon with the result. Would not hesitate to recommend for any roofing jobs."

Window Fitting
"John and his team were great, John came out promptly and looked at the job in hand and provided a quote in a timely manner, once we booked the job he kept in contact to come out and fully measure up and then organised the window install, john kept me updated all the way through and as soon as the window was made and ready organised a date to complete the job ,John and his team were lovely and very professional, really great job completed and they tidied up everything after, we would definitely use them again "

New Roof
"We knew from the very first conversation with the lady in the office that this would be a great firm to deal with. We were given an appointment for a quote and Anthony turned up bang on time as agreed. We agreed the cost and timing straight away. This is a family business & John & Anthony were fantastic to deal with. You can really tell that they care about their work & have great attention to detail. Their team of roofers were a great bunch of guys & they tidied up afterwards. Highly recommended. Wouldn’t hesitate to use them again."
Roof Lines FAQ’s
Can you put uPVC fascia over existing wood?
Yes and sometimes but only if the timber behind it is solid, dry, and structurally sound.
A lot of the problems we see come from “capping over” old boards that are already soft, damp, or starting to rot. It looks tidy for a while, but the underlying issue doesn’t go away and you can end up hiding decay, weak fixings, or even letting water keep tracking in.
If the existing fascia is in great condition, uPVC capping can be an option. If there’s any doubt, replacing the boards properly (and checking the rafter ends while we’re there) is the safer, longer-lasting route.
How long do uPVC fascia boards last?
In most cases, 20–30 years is a realistic expectation, and often longer, depending on:
- the quality of the boards and fixings used
- how well the roofline is ventilated
- exposure (coastal air, heavy weather, constant shade, etc.)
- whether gutters are maintained and not constantly overflowing
uPVC doesn’t rot like timber, which is why it’s so popular — but the full roofline system still needs to be installed correctly and kept clear of blockages.
What are the disadvantages of PVC roofing?
If you mean uPVC roofline products (fascias, soffits, guttering), the main downsides are usually about finish and fitting, not “performance”:
- It can look cheap if it’s capped badly or not finished neatly at corners and joints
- Movement/expansion uPVC expands and contracts with temperature, so it needs the right fixings and room to move
- It won’t fix rotten timber if it’s just capped over it can hide problems rather than solve them
- Colour stability — modern products are far better than old ones, but cheaper boards can discolour over time
If you actually mean PVC single-ply flat roofing membranes (a different product entirely), those have their own pros/cons but on this page, most people are talking about roofline plastics rather than flat roof membranes.
Can damaged fascia boards cause damp?
Yes, they can and it’s more common than people think.
Damaged or rotting fascias often lead to:
- Gutters sagging or pulling away, so water runs behind the gutter instead of into it
- Overflowing gutters, soaking the roof edge and brickwork repeatedly
- Water tracking into the soffit and rafter ends, causing further rot
- Damp patches internally, especially near external walls/ceilings if the leak path continues
The roofline is there to protect the roof edge and manage rainwater. Once it starts failing, water goes where it shouldn’t.have their own pros/cons but on this page, most people are talking about roofline plastics rather than flat roof membranes.
